IBM announced the addition of a System z “Solution Edition” for Chordiant applications to help clients leverage the mainframe data that currently resides at major companies, such as financial institutions and telecommunications companies. The new offering allows clients to improve revenue through enhanced products and services for customers, to mitigate risk and to increase customer retention.

Global electronic-payment technology giant Visa has increased its data center roster in time for the holiday shopping season – the company's busiest time. On Monday 16 november, the company announced the opening of its fourth data center – a 370,000-square-foot facility that houses more than 140,000 square feet of raised floor. The data center is capable of processing more than 10,000 transaction messages per second, Visa said in a statement.

Like all server systems, IBM's system-z mainframes need effective management to ensure operational costs stay as low as possible. The problem, according to Gartner and Ovum, is that most large mainframe users see their processing power consumption increase by 15-20% annually in terms of million instructions per second (MIPS).

A grocery retailer’s Computer Associates (CA) contract was due to renew in March 2008. The cost of renewal was steep and the retailer was planning on upgrading in October 2008 to IBM System z10 mainframes and would be faced with upgrade fees for CA Endevor Software Change Manager. The company sought an end-to-end change and configuration management solution.
