Centrify Corporation, a provider of Microsoft Active Directory-based, identity and access management and auditing solutions for non-Microsoft platforms, reportedly announced support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux in Centrify Suite 2008 for Linux on IBM System z. The new identity and access management solution from Centrify allows enterprises to leverage their existing Active Directory infrastructure and user accounts to easily secure the hundreds to thousands of Linux servers that a single mainframe can host.
The Centrify Suite is an integrated family of Active Directory-based auditing, access control and identity management solutions that secure cross-platform environments and strengthen regulatory compliance initiatives.
The DirectControl in the Suite secures non-Microsoft platforms using the same authentication and Group Policy services deployed for the Windows environment. Centrify DirectAuthorize centrally manages and enforces role-based entitlements for fine-grained control of user access and privileges on UNIX and Linux systems.
Centrify DirectAudit delivers auditing, logging and real-time monitoring of user activity on non-Microsoft systems.
The Centrify Suite of solutions is built on a common architecture, so they seamlessly integrate with each other to improve IT efficiency, strengthen regulatory compliance initiatives, and centrally secure a heterogeneous computing environment, officials said. Officials added that the new Centrify Suite also lets IT administrators integrate all other Linux, UNIX and Mac systems in an enterprise within Active Directory to provide centralized identity management, access control, privilege management and auditing of all non-Windows platforms.
In addition to becoming certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux for System z, Centrify Suite also earned IBM (News - Alert) brand "Ready for Systems with Linux" for System z servers, making it a qualified offering that has met compatibility and integration specifications established by IBM. “Red Hat is pleased that Centrify Suite supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux for IBM System z,” said Shawn Wells, director of global system z sales and strategy at Red Hat, in a statement. “Customers are looking for freedom of choice and lower total cost of ownership. With Centrify supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux from laptop to Mainframe, it has clearly demonstrated its commitment to both.”
According to Corey Williams, director of product management for Centrify, Linux on IBM System z servers provides one of the most cost-effective, powerful, resilient platforms for running massive Linux workloads. “Combined with Centrify Suite 2008, you can centrally control access and manage users of Red Hat Enterprise Linux on IBM System z and those on other UNIX and Linux systems to provide a secure and compliant operating environment for the most critical business servers,” Williams said in a statement.
The Centrify Suite 2008, Standard Edition with DirectControl and DirectAuthorize is available now and currently supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z9 and System z10. The Centrify Suite 2008 for System z9 and System z10 is licensed on a per guest OS server basis, starting at $1,000 per server.
